“Laying Hands.”

This is the basic principle in Reiki, where the hands channel the energy from one person to another for healing. The positioning of the hands when doing Reiki therapy is the general concept on how the energy is transferred.

However, different teachers have different ideas; but generally, the placing of the hand in the affected area is adequate enough.

But just to give an overview on the basic hand positions in Reiki therapy, here is where hands should be placed in the affected region of the body.

Back Reiki therapy

To transfer energy to the heart, lungs, intestines and muscles located in the shoulder and neck area, the hands should be placed across the shoulder blades almost reaching the upper region. This position will help alleviate lung and heart diseases, head aches and muscle tensions.

Lowering down the placement of the hands atop the lower ribs or the midriff will transfer energy to the kidneys and the adrenal glands. It is important to heal the adrenal glands as they produce and secret hormones that are essential to various bodily functions.

Head Reiki Therapy

In dealing with colds, sinuses, teeth problems, headaches, fatigue and allergies, hands should be placed on the upper part of the cheeks with the thumbs on the bridge of the nose, eyes covered and the tips of the fingers barely touching the lips.

You may also place the hands on the sides of the head covering the ears and fingers extended to the jaw line. This can help alleviate ear and hearing problems.

Putting the head in the palm of the hands also helps in relaxing and releasing stress and eliminating headaches.

The chest area Reiki Therapy is more complicated with numerous hand positioning. One such position is placing the hands on each side of the navel slightly reaching the sides of the body. This gives energy to the stomach and other digestive organs.
