The Reiki Practice Defined
Reiki is the Japanese technique in relieving stress and enabling thorough relaxation, while promoting internal healing at the same time. It is done by "laying on hands". Its principles are based on the idea that there is an existing unseen life force energy that flows through us – this life force of energy is the reason why we are alive. If one’s life energy is low, then he or she is more likely to get sick and feel stressed out. And when the life energy is high, one is more capable of feeling happy and being healthy.
The term Reiki is composed of two Japanese words – Rei, which means God’s Wisdom or High Power, and Ki, which means Life Force Energy. So literally, Reiki means a "spiritually guided life force energy".
Any therapy makes you feel a wonderful glowing radiance flowing around and within you, and this ancient Japanese technique of healing do just the same and more – it treats the whole person including the body, emotions, mind, and the spirit by creating a lot of benefits. Some of the good effects of this Japanese art of healing include full relaxation and the feeling of genuine inner peace, security and well-being. A lot of people who have tried it claimed to have had miraculous results.
Reiki is nothing but a simple technique to learn, when you come to think of it. However, the ability to heal using this technique is not taught in the traditional ways but is "transferred" to the student during a formal class. This ability is passed on during an attunement given by the Master, allowing the student to tap into an unlimited supply of life force energy so that he or she may be able to improve one’s health and enhance one’s quality of life.
The use of this ancient healing technique is not dependent on one’s intelligence or spiritual development, making it more available and accessible to anyone who believes in its ways and wishes to try. In fact, it has been successfully taught to thousands of people from all walks of life – in all ages and backgrounds.
Although this form of healing is spiritual in nature, it is not any type of religion. It contains no dogma, and there is no belief requirement before one can avail of its great health benefits. Its effects will not be based to whether you believe its principles to the letter or not. But since the Japanese believes that this type of healing comes from God himself, a lot of people realize that after exposing themselves with this form of therapy, that have become more in touch with the experience of their religion instead of having only an intellectual understanding of it.
